PRACTICE UPDATES

With the possibility of inclement weather later this week we would like to remind you if the Waunakee schools are closed or if they cancel after school activities, we are not able to have practice. Practice may also be cancelled if the facility is not able to be opened by staff due to weather as well. The coaching staff will send an email as soon as we know practices cannot be held. Keep an eye on your emails during those times!

WAVE HOSTED MEET DECLARE BY 1/23

Home meet declaration due this Friday, 1/23! Make sure to declare or decline by then. We hope swimmers of all ages will be available both days, as there are events for everyone on Sunday!

WAVE SPRING NEW SWIMMER EVALUATIONS

Spring Evaluation dates are coming soon! If you have a family member or new family interested in swimming with our team this spring, we will be announcing swimmer evaluation dates in the coming weeks. Please be on the lookout for this in our newsletter or on our website!

DFAC WINTER PENTATHLON MEET RECAP

Wave had a great showing at the DFAC Pentathlon, and I hope parents were able to see the facility we will be using for our hosted meet! During this meet coaches stressed the understanding that they will be swimming many events in a short period of time. This is not unlike a high school swim meet. All of our swimmers got a taste of that last Saturday and rose to the challenge so well!

Swimmer of the Meet: All the swimmers who helped clean up the Wave seating area after the meet. As coaches say, "leave it better than you found it!"

Note: Coaches would like to remind all families, meets are a way to measure progress throughout the season. It may not be about timed progress, but the ability to make adjustments after feedback, technique, racing strategy, or swimming an event for the first time! We encourage parents to support and allow the relationship between coaches and swimmers to inspire them to step outside their comfort zone. It is NEVER a failure unless they refuse to try....and we always strive for effort, not perfection! Coaches thank you for allowing us to build confidence in your swimmers!

PREPARING FOR OUR HOSTED MEET - SUPER SPLASH!

The Waunakee Wave Super Splash Meet is right around the corner on February 7–8 at the Sauk Prairie High School Pool. This is our largest hosted meet of the year and a critical fundraiser for our team, second only to the swimmer membership fees. Hosting a successful meet takes a true team effort, and we greatly appreciate the support of our swimmers and families. We would love to see as many Wave swimmers participate as possible!

Call for Volunteers
Because this is a two-day meet, we ask that each family in our performance groups (Senior A/B, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Purple) sign-up for at least two volunteer shifts to help ensure the meet runs smoothly for all athletes. Families from our developmental groups (Ripples, Breakers, and WTF) are also encouraged to attend and volunteer—these families who volunteer for at least one shift will have the $10 meet surcharge waived.

Volunteer job sign-up will open Friday (1/16) at 6:00PM. To sign-up, please click the green “Job Signup” button within the meet event on the Team Events page of our website.

For more details regarding volunteer work, please visit the Volunteering page or review the Team Handbook. Thank you for helping make Super Splash a great experience for our swimmers and visiting teams!

PARENTS AND LOCKER ROOMS

As a reminder, parents are not permitted in the locker rooms during practices in accordance with athlete protection policies. Restrooms for parents, siblings, and other guests are located down the hall. Please wait for your swimmer in the lobby while they change. If any issue arises in the locker room, please notify a coach on-deck—or a lifeguard in the case of an emergency—so it can be addressed promptly.
