New 8 and under swimmers and non-swimmers should join here. Older non-swimmers start here and quickly progress to a more advanced group. Formerly Yellow group.
The purpose of this group is to teach athletes freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke along with the various components that go along with these strokes such as kicking, streamlines, and diving. Breaststroke and butterfly skills are introduced but not a main focus.
There will also be a strong emphasis on fun and athleticism. The goal for this group is to have athletes who are capable of swimming freestyle and backstroke at meets.
Graduation from this group will occur when athlete can swim 25 yards freestyle with proper side breathing and 25 yards backstroke with a proper finish, good body rotation and demonstrates the desire and ability to be prepared to succeed in the Exploration group or when the athlete turns 9 years old.
New 9 and 10 year old swimmers should join here. Expected to practice 2-3 times a week. Formerly Red group.
The purpose of this group is build upon the skills developed in the Discovery group and to teach athletes butterfly, breaststroke and the various components that go along with these strokes such as kicking, sculling, and underwater skills. Turns for all strokes are introduced in this group. There will continue to be an emphasis on fun and athleticism. The goal for this group is to have athletes who are capable of legally swimming 100 yard IM which uses all four strokes.
Graduation from this group will occur when athletes can swim 100 IM and 50 yards of all 4 competitive strokes legally, or the athlete turns 11 years old.
New 11 and 12 year old swimmers should join here. This group is also open with coach-parent approval to younger, more advanced swimmers. Expected to practice 3 times a week. Formerly White group.
The purpose of this group is to teach and train athletes to swim 100 Individual Medley (IM) races, teach and improve flip turns, open turns, and improve other aspects of stroke and turn technique. Most practice in this group is shorter duration with great technique, but we will begin some longer training and swim longer races in meets. There will still be times where we emphasize fun and general athleticism, but athleticism will become more specialized. The goal for this group is to have athletes who are proficient in the 100 IM and 100 yard distances of all strokes. Basic goal setting is encouraged and discussed.
Graduation from this group will occur when athletes can swim 100 yards of all 4 competitive strokes legally, or the athlete has completed 7th grade.
An athlete must be at least 9 years old before joining this group, and mature 7th and 8th graders who swim and are new to the sport should join here. Expected to practice 3-4 times a week. Formerly Blue group.
The purpose of this group is to teach and train athletes to swim the 400 Individual Medley (IM) and to get comfortable swimming longer endurance sets/events. The athletes will learn more of the mental side of the sport, and will return to more generalized athleticism. Fun is redefined. The goal for this group is to build endurance while maintaining IM skills, and maturation as an athlete.
We also established criteria for acceptance into the Challenge group for swimmers younger then 8th grade. Swimmers must be able to swim a 50 free in 37.5 seconds, a 100IM in 1:40 seconds (exception for those with physical limitations for breaststroke). Be able to swim 10 x 50 on 1 minute and 6 x 100 on 1:45. Must swim all 4 stroke legal for 100 yards.
Graduation from this group will occur when athletes can swim 200 yards of all 4 competitive strokes legally, or the athlete enters high school.
The purpose of this group is to teach and train athletes who are beginning to make a major commitment to the sport of swimming. They will be challenged and educated/trained in all strokes and in distances where an athlete shows proficiency. Technique and stroke management is about fine tuning at this level, yet still about a long-term vision and encouragement to an even greater commitment. The athlete will begin to take ownership of their swimming and is expected to practice 4-5 times a week.
An athlete must be very self-motivated before joining this group.
HIGH PERFORMANCE GROUP
These athletes are very self-motivated before joining this group and must be willing to practice 7+ times a week.
The purpose of this group is to advance an athlete toward lofty goals that they and coaches have set for them. They will at times train with great intensity. They have matured enough to recognize that they have control of their actions both in and out of the pool and that through consistent efforts they will maximize their opportunities to reach the goals they have established for themselves.
Swimmers in this group must be Imagination group or above in ability.
The purpose of this group is to help time-restricted athletes that are in another sport during the season maintain their swimming fitness and continue to grow in the sport when they otherwise would not be able to attend their regular group practice at least 3 times per week.
Maintenance may be used as its own group, or an athlete in another group may attend 1 time per week if they would otherwise have to miss practice.
INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE PLAN (IPP)
IPP is only offered through coach invitation with parent and swimmer acceptance.
A child must be at least 10 years old and swim all four competitive strokes, but does NOT have to qualify for Performance group. IPP is similar to High Performance group.
Due to the intense nature of coach's preparation, it is for children serious about improving in the sport who plan on near-perfect attendance in the afternoon and on Saturday.
In this group, the coaches will sit down with the athletes to determine their swimming goals. The coach will write individually-tailored workouts for the child based on his or her goals. Examples of who may want to join this group would be a swimmer who would like to focus more on distance events or a swimmer who would like to focus on strengthening their kick.
Contact the coach on details on how to join this group.
